Depleting Bamboo reserves of Bhutan Sephu Area

Artisans of Sephu region of Bhutan are facing income crisis as the bamboo forests or the area have died years ago. Artisan use to weave high quality traditional bamboo products and barter them for their necessities but unavailability of bamboo forced them to stop weaving about few years ago. The area comes under the Wangchuck Centennial Park. The park is trying to revive the Bamboo weaving craft and livelihood of the artisans by providing them the bamboo saplings and financial assistance. People are collecting bamboo saplings from the forest and have started growing it on their own land. Park is also trying to form group of farmers to they can cultivate weave and market their products together
